Joellyn Key

Joellyn Key was a perfectly healthy woman until a trip out of the country in November of last year. Upon her return, she got sick, was treated with antibiotics, but didn't really get well. She had her gallbladder removed but was still sick. In January, she was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre' Syndrome - http://www.merck.com/mmpe/sec16/ch223/ch223d.html . It was caught and diagnosed quickly, but it was bad.. She was put into an induced coma, and things looked very bleak for a while. CP volunteers formed a prayer chain so she would have round the clock prayers for her recovery. When she awoke, she had no control over her head, neck, trunk, and no feeling in her legs. She couldn't swallow and had to have a feeding tube.

She has been slowly recovering the use of her body over the last four months, but she has been in a wheelchair and unable to walk because she still has no feeling in her feet. During the California CRAP, Joellyn wanted to try to walk. Of course, this seemed a good fundraising opportunity for the furbutts, so we took up the collection for the Joellyn Walks Challenge, and we raised $800 in record time! This is Joellyn, rising to the challenge.

Our prayers were answered - she is on the road to recovery - but it is a very long road. We decided that she needed many more hugs - and what better hug than a CP Heart Quilt.

Since I'm back on the BOD of CPCRN, I guess I need to put a disclaimer in. This is a heart project by Joellyn's friends for her. It is a hug from all of us. It is NOT CPCRN 'the rescue' giving her a quilt. If you want to be a part of this very personal project... go get some fabric... and be sure to mail the completed block by the due date. As usual, we will be putting the squares online so everyone can see them. Once the quilt is done, we will also post its picture.
